You just have to Google “the best things to do in Miami” and you’ll be provided with a gazillion results ranging from fine dining experiences, white sand beaches to explore, state-of-the-art shopping destinations to visit— the list is virtually endless. But what if you just want a relaxing drive with your partner with some scenic views and your favorite tunes in the background? Well, the Magic City doesn’t disappoint in this department as well. From stunning waterfront bridges that extend far beyond South Beach to smooth freeways flanked by palm trees, the city has and is surrounded by some of the best driving roads in the East Coast. So wait out the rush hour, fill up the tank, and start planning to navigate your way through these scenic drives in Miami!
The Venetian Causeway
Although the Venetian Causeway may not offer the stunning views of the skyline you get from other large bridges, it has its own unique charm. Just take a drive on this bridge at sunset and you’ll be hit with a wave of nostalgia as soon as you pass the beautiful tollbooth. The view of the houses is breathtaking, but what makes this drive truly exciting are the mini bridges that connect Sunset Harbor to these islands.
One moment, you’re engulfed with residential greenery, and in the next, you’re shooting over the bay and back again.
Coral Way
The Coral Way’s western corridor may not be as scenic as its eastern counterpart. However, as you leave Red Road and enter Coral Gables, it feels like you’ve traveled back in time to a bygone era. You’re greeted by wild oaks on both sides that are centuries old, tons of benches and mini parks, and the original Gables gates. This stretch is also home to the iconic George Merrick House—a landmark that’s built entirely out of coral.
Granada Boulevard
Granada Boulevard is another main artery that runs through the south and north of Coral Gables. As you make this scenic drive, you’ll cross some of Miami’s most historical landmarks and beautiful homes. It’s also a great drive if you’re interested in the Spanish-revival style architecture that’s synonymous with the Magic City. Some notable spots on this drive include the Granada Golf Course, Venetian Pool, the DeSoto Fountain, the Biltmore Hotel, and countless estates that look preserved in time.
Biscayne Boulevard
Last on our list but by no means the least, Biscayne Boulevard is quite easily one of Miami’s most exciting and scenic drives. If you’re a visitor in Miami, it provides you the opportunity to get up close and personal with the skyline of Downtown Miami. You’ll get to see the Freedom Tower—a historic relic standing shoulder-to-shoulder with modern skyscrapers. It truly offers a unique and unforgettable experience.
