SOBEWFF and FIU Chaplin School of Hospitality helping during COVID-19

SOBEWFF and FIU Chaplin School Hospitality Industry Relief Fund Need Your Support

South Beach Wine and Food Festival (SOBEWFF) is a festival presented by Capital One and the Food Network and Cooking Channel, the proceeds of which benefit the students of Florida International University (FIU) Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.

As of March 25, the festival launched the FIU Chaplin School Hospitality Industry Relief Fund in order to combat the impact of COVID-19 on the hospitality industry in South Florida. The fund will provide financial support to independently owned restaurants and bars in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties impacted by the pandemic.

The starting amount for the fund was $1,000,000, which includes a donation of $500,000 from the festival’s benefiting charity, the FIU Chaplain School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. As of April 16, according to Claudia Da Silva, the marketing manager, the fund has raised 1.4 million dollars.

According to a press release on March 25, there has been financial support from founding partners, including Barcardi USA, Badia Spices, Luxco, Mast-Jägermeister US, Shaw-Ross International Importerse, and Voli 305 Vodka.

In order to support more restaurants and bars, SOBEWFF is asking for your help so that they can help the FIU Chaplin School of Hospitality.

“We are coming to you today, as a vital partner of the Festival, to ask you to join our efforts and help the Fund continue to grow…” said Da Silva in a statement. If possible, you can donate on the SOBEWFF website, or by texting FIUSOBEWFF to 41444. Another form of support is simply spreading the word.

The donations will fund grants to independently owned restaurants and bars which have had to cease operations or lay off employees in the wake of COVID-19.

Founder and director of SOBEWFF, Lee Brian Schrager, believes it’s time to give back to the struggling hospitality industry.

“We are prepared to come to their aid now, when they need us the most.”
