Jorge Masvidal was in police custody following battery felony charges until posting bail
UFC fighter and champion Jorge Masvidal was seen walking out of the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he was booked the night before. He was allowed out on bond and stands to face a charge for aggravated assault.
The incident that led to this situation
The incident that led to these charges took place outside Papi Steak on Monday night. A fight erupted outside the South Beach restaurant between Masvidal and his opponent in the ring, Colby Covington, as the two went neck and neck, and Covington was later seen by eyewitnesses nursing a broken tooth. This was after he was punched twice in the face with a closed fist by Masvidal.
It's unfortunate that things took such an ugly turn between the two international stars, who were once good friends and even roommates. After their friendship ended, the two ended up losing touch. However, Covington and Masvidal fought it out in the ring last month, with Covington taking the winning title.
Updates and progress on the case
Masvidal, who is a success story from our very own Miami, fighting his way up from backyards to the UFC, is currently out on bond. An arraignment is expected for mid-April, but details are unclear at present.
The Miami local worked his way up to his success and got to where he is, building an otherwise prominent role in the public eye. He was scheduled to appear with Gov Ron DeSantis in a campaign event called "Fighting to Keep Florida Free," but it's unclear whether he'll be at the event as of right now.
