It's tough to know when it's time to make a career switch or change your life but some signs will tell you that
Is it time for a career switch?
It's always scary to make a big life change, whether moving cities, getting into a new relationship, or making a career switch. But it might just be one of the best decisions you make for yourself, giving you more flexibility, freedom, and joy than your current job or line of work.
How will you know it's time for a career switch? Several indicators and signs can help you figure out if it's time for a change and whether you should think about trying something new, including:
Complacency is your middle name
You're comfortable, complacent, and unwilling to make more than the bare minimum effort required at work. It's not surprising that this is happening since human beings need stimulation and engagement to perform well. Complacency can set in and make it hard to focus on anything or put in the necessary effort to excel or progress the way you want.
You feel small and helpless at work
Nothing is worse than feeling small, helpless, and like you're unimportant. Being in the wrong career or job can often make you question your impact on the world and whether the work you're doing makes a difference of any kind. You must switch to a career that makes you feel like you're making a difference in the world.
Going to work fills you with dread
Whether it's on the weekend or every morning, if the thought of work fills you with dread, you must step back and breathe. If work doesn't bring you joy or excitement and only fills you with dread and regret, you should look into this and think about why it's making you so unhappy.
Money is the only motivator for you
There's no denying how important money is. It makes the world goes round, pays the bills, keeps a roof over your head and food on the table. But money isn't the only thing that sustains us, and your job isn't the only one that pays well. If money is the only reason you're holding on to a job that makes you so miserable, it's a pretty good chance that you should at least consider alternatives. There are different ways to earn money, including through investments, side-hustles, and other methods.
The future doesn't excite you at all
Another major red flag you need to watch out for is that the future doesn't excite you at all. The future should be something that has you feeling excited, happy, and eager to start something new, offering your new possibilities and opportunities, but if all you see is burnout, exhaustion, fatigue, and boredom, you've got to make a change.
It's easier said than done to switch jobs, let alone entire careers. But when there's a will, there's a way. Think about the things that bring you joy or you're passionate about or look into alternative careers that you've been eyeing for a while. You never know what the future holds!
