The grant program offers eligible small businesses up to $1,500 to help support growth, operations, and economic resilience throughout Miami-Dade County

Small businesses remain one of the most important drivers of economic development in Miami-Dade County, creating jobs, supporting local families, and contributing to the character of communities throughout South Florida. In recognition of their impact, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Vicki L. Lopez has announced the launch of the 2026 Mom & Pop Small Business Grant Program for businesses located within District 5.

The program will provide eligible small businesses with grants of up to $1,500 to assist with qualifying expenses such as equipment purchases, inventory, marketing, professional services, renovations, and other business-related needs. Applications will be accepted from June 23 through July 10, 2026, offering entrepreneurs an opportunity to access financial support designed to strengthen local business operations and long-term sustainability.

For Miami-Dade County residents, the program reflects an ongoing commitment to supporting economic growth while helping neighborhood businesses navigate rising costs and changing market conditions.

Supporting the Backbone of Miami-Dade County's Economy

Commissioner Lopez has made small business support a central focus of her work since taking office. Through visits to businesses throughout District 5, she has met directly with owners to better understand the challenges they face and the contributions they make to the local economy.

According to Lopez, many entrepreneurs continue to confront rising operating costs, affordability pressures, workforce challenges, and increasing competition. The Mom & Pop Small Business Grant Program was created to provide practical assistance to businesses that may not always have access to larger funding opportunities.

"One of the greatest joys of serving as County Commissioner has been getting to know the small business owners who make District 5 such a vibrant place to live, work, and visit," Lopez said. "I have heard firsthand about the long hours, sacrifices, and challenges that come with running a small business."

The program is designed for for-profit businesses that have been operating for at least one year and maintain current county, city, and state registrations. Home-based businesses are also eligible to apply, provided they meet all program requirements.

Grant Program Aims to Strengthen Local Entrepreneurship

Beyond providing direct financial assistance, the grant program seeks to strengthen entrepreneurship and encourage long-term business stability throughout District 5.

To help applicants navigate the process, Commissioner Lopez's office will host two free informational workshops. The first workshop will take place on June 29 at the Miami Beach Regional Library, while the second will be held on June 30 at the Latin Chamber of Commerce (CAMACOL).

Eligible applicants must operate a for-profit business, maintain a physical business address, and submit only one application per business. Applications must be delivered in person in a sealed envelope no later than July 10, 2026, at 4 p.m.

Small business owners often serve as community anchors, creating employment opportunities, supporting neighborhood commercial corridors, and contributing to local economic vitality. Programs such as the Mom & Pop Small Business Grant help ensure that these businesses continue to play a meaningful role in Miami-Dade County's future growth.

As communities throughout South Florida continue adapting to economic changes, access to resources and support programs remains critical for business owners seeking to remain competitive and sustainable. The 2026 Mom & Pop grant program represents another opportunity for local entrepreneurs to invest in their operations and position themselves for future success.
