The event took place one week before his birthday to place to honor the memories and contribution of Tupac Shakur. His family, fans, and friends gathered on Wednesday in the ceremony where his family accepted the star on his behalf.
Sekyiwa “Set” Shakur said that she always knew that her brother was meant for greatness during the acceptance speech. She talked about having the privilege to witness him as the greatness unfolded.
The Los Angeles City Council presented her with a resolution that will mark June 7 as Tupac Shakur Day.
Influential rapper and his death
Tupac is deemed the most influential rapper, and this star on the Walk of Fame celebrates not only the star on the ground but also honors the passion and work he put into realizing his dreams. Having sold 75 million global records, he is among the best-selling rappers.
The actor and music artist was shot on September 7, 1996, in Las Vegas during a drive-by shooting. He was only 25 when he succumbed to death 6 days after the actual incident.
Since then, many documentaries, books, and films have examined his death and life. The recent project “Dear Mama” streamed on Hulu focused on the life of Tupac and his mother, Afeni Shakur, who was a former Black Panther member. Following a heart attack, she died in 2016 at the age of 69.
