Artistic gymnastics is going to be your kids’ favorite new activity to partake in
You’ve heard of gymnastics and loved watching these talented, skilled, and lithe gymnasts performing incredible stunts, but did you know there are different types of gymnastic competitions and events? Artistic gymnastics is one of the most popular forms of the sport, currently.
This blog will serve as a guide to all there is to know about artistic gymnastics, including what it is, who can participate, where you can do it in Miami, and more. Let’s get right into it:
What exactly is artistic gymnastics?
Artistic gymnastics is basically a form of competition that includes both men and women. The three primary types of artistic gymnastics competitions include individual participation, teams, and individual all-round. Women compete across four exercises, including floor exercise, balance beams, uneven bars, and vault. Whereas men have six events, including three of those mentioned above, pommel horse, high bar, parallel bars, and still rings.
To say all these events are fiercely competitive and challenging would be an understatement, given that athletes go head to head to perform.
How is it different from regular gymnastics?
Artistic gymnastics is a category of gymnastics in general and differs from other variations of the sport, including rhythmic gymnastics, which is specifically for female athletes and combines elements of ballet, and trampoline gymnastics which is all-gender inclusive and uses a trampoline for aerial flips and jumps.
Each category of the sport has its own special qualities and must be executed based on certain competitive criteria. However, on the whole, artistic gymnastics remains one of the most accessible forms of the sport. Nearly anyone can participate in it.
Who can participate in artistic gymnastics?
Ideally, gymnastics training begins at a young age, given that it requires years of conditioning and strengthening to be as flexible, strong, and agile as you need, but it’s never too late to start. Many places offer gymnastics training specifically for adults and older kids who wish to participate and learn the sport, giving you a chance to get a grip of the basics and start participating in the sport itself.
One of the best things about it is that it’s an excellent workout and gives you a whole lot of strength and flexibility. You build a ton of core strength and get more range of motion while also developing immense muscle strength. It’s an excellent workout that can be adapted to all experience levels and ages, and many places offer gymnastics for adults too!
Where can you do artistic gymnastics in Miami?
Miami offers something for everyone, and gymnastics is no exception. There are several gyms and studios around town where you can participate in and learn gymnastics as an adult. Some of these studios offer beginner-level lessons, while clothes offer more advanced training for former gymnasts who are out of practice.
If gymnastics isn’t quite up to your alley, there are other sports you can try as an adult too, including kickboxing and martial arts, that will give you similar benefits.
