This past Wednesday, January 11, the Miami Marlins traded their veteran shortstop and Venezuelan Miguel Rojas, delivering him to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for Jacob Amaya
Rojas says goodbye to Miami Marlins after two contract extensions
Rojas, who is now 34 years old, joined the Marlins back in December 2014. After 8 years with the team, we have seen how he has gone from being a reserve to taking on the role of shortstop daily in 2017 and even helping the Marlins end their 17-year postseason drought in 2020, with a home run in Game 1 of the NLDS against the Chicago Cubs. Rojas has played 870 games in MLB, in eight seasons with the Marlins, being the baseball player with the most games played in Miami, and was a finalist for the National League Gold Glove.
He signed extensions twice, the last one extending until 2023, and now the time has come for him to say goodbye and start a new stage in Los Angeles.
The Dodgers acquire Rojas in exchange for Jacob Amaya
It is that The Dodgers, after the departure of Trea Turner, who ended up signing with Philadelphia Phillies, needed a new player urgently to cover the position. For this reason, they decided that the Venezuelan Rojas was the perfect piece to complete the puzzle, a former player of the team before 2009.
Jacob Amaya: Will he meet the needs of the Miami Marlins?
Amaya has a very different profile from Rojas: younger, more inexperienced, and a minor leaguer. At just 24 years old (10 years apart) and with little experience, the California native has yet to make his major league debut. Still, he's quick and agile and looks like a good up-and-coming signing: He was named a 2022 Organizational All
With his addition, the Marlins have the full 40-player roster. We look forward to seeing how Amaya performs on the field and if the decision has been the right one.
