"Seniors Who Serve" Awards: Celebrating Wisdom and Generosity

Miami-Dade County is gearing up to celebrate its unsung heroes—the older adults whose volunteerism shapes a brighter future at the "Seniors Who Serve" awards.

Miami-Dade County, known for its vibrant culture and diverse community, is set to shine a spotlight on the often-overlooked heroes among us—the older adults who tirelessly contribute to the community's betterment. The "Seniors Who Serve" awards, launched by the Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD), are a heartwarming initiative to recognize and celebrate the remarkable volunteer efforts of individuals aged 60 and above.

Elevating contributions across six impactful categories

These awards aim to honor those who have selflessly devoted their time and skills to various causes within Miami-Dade County. Nominations, opening on December 1, 2023, and closing on January 31, 2024, are a chance for the community to highlight the impactful work of older adults in the realms of Education/Mentoring, Health Care, Intergenerational Activities, Arts, Music and Entertainment, and Public Service.

Empowering seniors through volunteerism at Miami-Dade's EDS Division

The initiative is spearheaded by CAHSD's Elderly and Disabilities Services (EDS) Division, a cornerstone in providing free and culturally sensitive services. From Adult Day Care Centers to Home-Delivered Meals and Transportation, EDS empowers and supports Miami-Dade's elderly population. The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) under EDS further provides individuals aged 55 and above with opportunities to contribute their time and expertise, addressing critical community needs.
