Possession of child pornography by Sunrise police officer and SWAT member now arrested

The Sunrise police officer was arrested on multiple charges of child pornography

Predators and criminals can come forward from the most unexpected places, and this time it's a police officer from Miami. An officer with the Sunrise Police Department was detained on Saturday for allegedly owning and watching child pornography-related material. Carl Haller was charged, and his electronic devices are currently being investigated for more evidence.

The following is what we know about this case so far:

The child pornography investigation on Carl Haller

According to online Broward County prison records, 39-year-old Carl Haller has been charged with deliberately watching sexual acts by children, compiling this pornographic material on a computer, and messing with physical evidence. His bail is $10,000.

Haller has reportedly been a member of the Sunrise Police Department's patrol division and special weapons and tactics (SWAT) unit since 2016. According to a press release from the department, the investigation against Haller began on January 30. Now, the FBI is helping with the investigation of Haller's electronic equipment.

What Haller is facing now

Haller was put on administrative leave and had his guns, police badge, and id seized from him when the investigation began. He has also not been in front of the public formally yet. As of now, Haller has been put on unpaid administrative leave.
