Art & Culture

You are invited to this year’s Noche de Carnaval!

If you are looking for an unforgettable night of fun and celebration of Latin culture, come to the annual Noche de Carnaval! Mark your calendars for the incredible event taking place on August 28, 2021, from 2 pm until 11 pm at the Miami Dade County Fair and Exposition.

Put together by the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana, with the support of University Health Care powered by Cano Health, this year they will bring the best lineup! Over 30 Latin music stars from more than 20 nationalities will be there, including Wilfrido Vargas.

Wilfrido Vargas is one of the greatest legends of Latin music and the king of merengue. He is a composer, conductor, trumpeter, lyricist, and businessman that continues to impress his listeners with his talent. The Kiwanis of Little Havana has decided to crown him King of Carnaval for this year’s event!

"Receiving this recognition as King of 'Carnaval Miami' from one of the most important Latin music festivals in the United States is very special not only for me but also for merengue and my beloved Dominican Republic. I appreciate this opportunity to get together to celebrate life and my 50-year musical career with my fellow Dominicans!"

You may recognize some of the star’s major hits, El Africano, El Loco y la Luna, Volveré, El Baile del Perrito, Comején, and El Jardinero. Vargas has also been the recipient of multiple awards throughout his career, such as the recognition of Musical Excellence by the Latin Grammys, being elected as Grand Marshal in the famous carnival from Barranquilla, and the Congo de Oro award three times.

Not only that, but Noche de Carnaval Miami is an event for your entire family. Everyone can enjoy Latin food, artisanal crafts, cultural exhibitions, and of course, music from all of the Latin communities in South Florida.

Carnaval Miami is a yearly event that began in 1978 and gets bigger and better every time. The Kiwanis Club of Little Havana has relied on this event as their annual fundraiser to help support and grow the Foundation’s youth development programs. Due to these funds, the organization has been able to host a variety of initiatives from scholarships to musical and recreational events, to educational opportunities for the kids within the local community. Over the years, Carnaval Miami has become one of the largest and most significant events for Miami’s Hispanic community. While the effects of the pandemic have impacted the organization, it is expected that this year’s Carnaval will be a success!

The Kiwanis of Little Havana is a branch of Kiwanis International, which is a global organization of volunteers that are committed to serving the children in their communities. In particular, the Little Havana chapter is known to stand out with its creative fundraising events and the impact they hold. Thousands of families have already been touched by the work of the organization through holiday giving, scholarships, youth summer camps, and back-to-school readiness.

A great event and a great cause behind it, so do not miss out!
