Mental Health Awareness Month 2022 at Care Resource means EPIC awards for its health directors

This Mental Health Awareness Month 2022, the EPIC Awards will honor the exceptional services of health directors at Care Resource

May is National Mental Health Awareness Month 2022, and like every year, Mental Health America of Southeast Florida will be hosting the 26th Annual EPIC Awards. This year, the Exceptional People Impacting the Community (EPIC) award will recognize the exceptional services of mental health professionals.

Dr. Thomas Smith and Dr. Sheryl Zayas of Care Resource have helped the most vulnerable members of our community through their support and leadership. The two medical and behavioral health directors have proactively provided recovery support during the current opioid crisis.

Mental health issues can affect anyone regardless of age, race, gender, or social status. Since May is National Mental Health Awareness Month 2022, it is important that we all realize the importance of mental wellness. This includes our physical health and how we behave with others.

The mental health professionals at Care Resource promote this idea and help their clients achieve their goals. They help people struggling with chronic mental illnesses live a healthier, happier life. In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month 2022, anyone can request a behavioral health screening at Care Resource.

About the 26th EPIC Awards

The EPIC (Extraordinary People Impacting the Community) awards are given to members who go above and beyond in their community work. These people give back to our community through their efforts, activism, and initiatives.

This year, Mental Health America of Southeast Florida will honor the work of Dr. Thomas Smith and Dr. Sheryl Zayas of Care Resource. Their Special Purpose Outreach Team (SPOT) Mobile Clinic provides clean needles, education, and recovery support to people struggling with substance abuse.

During the current opioid crisis, their SPOT initiative helped provide 140 Narcan reversals. Their proactive intervention efforts toward drug abuse awareness and prevention deserve this honor.
