Tech billionaire and owner of Tesla, Elon Musk, is now the proud owner of his favorite social media app, Twitter
In this week's weird news from around the world, the world's richest man, billionaire Elon Musk announced that he would be purchasing the social media app Twitter. This came as a surprise to some, while others saw this coming, given that Musk is an avid Twitter user.
CEO and owner of Tesla and SpaceX CEO, the tech entrepreneur is known for his experimental business decisions, creative outlook, and technological innovation.
Elon Musk and his initial interest in Twitter
Musk is one of Twitter's most well-recognized and influential users, with a massive following of over 10 million. While Musk has been a shareholder in the company, he bought the largest share in Twitter at the start of this month after he almost signed on to become a director. However, he changed his mind about joining the Board of Directors and instead became the owner.
His acquisition of the company, Twitter Pvt., is underway at a whopping $44 billion, which will give him more control over its operational policies, framework, and structure.
Although a consistent user and fan of the social media platform, he has continued to express issues with the app and its interface, user experience, and code. Another major issue he has raised has been the platform's crackdown on abuse, which he deems an essential part of democratic free speech.
However, he stated that ex-POTUS Donald Trump will still not be welcome back on the platform despite account reinstation. Twitter's ban of Trump's account is why he launched his own app, Truth Social, earlier this year.
Elon Musk's other plans for the app include making it an open-source code, strengthening security, possibly encrypting direct messages, and more.
