The Buffalo Bills have released a statement confirming that the defensive player who tackled Higgins suffered cardiac arrest from the move. After taking a hit against the Bengals, Damar Hamlin suffered a heart attack. The medical team brought his heart rate back to normal on the field before transporting him to the UC Medical Center. His condition is critical, but he is starting to show signs of progress.
How is he doing now?
A few days after collapsing on the field, the Buffalo Bills reported on January 5, 2023, that Damar Hamlin had made great progress. Even though he is currently in critical condition, he has shown signs of neurological stability. His lung condition is improving, and his recovery is proceeding steadily.
Dr. Bernard Ashby, a cardiologist in Miami, stated that Hamlin's damage was similar to commotio cordis, which happens when a person sustains a quick, hard hit to the chest and goes into cardiac arrest. Even in the rough and tumble National Football League, this is a very unusual occurrence.
