Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) has introduced a new system that gives electric vehicle drivers a chance to power up their cars in the event of a public emergency, or when residents are evacuating, like before a storm. The company debuted a 39-foot EV charging trailer during its yearly storm drill event in April. The trailer will be strategically positioned around the state in times of emergency, allowing drivers to power up and get to where they need to go.

Helping EV drivers prepare with fast charging solutions
The clean energy-powered portable EV charging trailer is part of a pilot initiative to help EV drivers access additional chargers and make it to their next charging location. The EV charging trailer can power up to six vehicles at a time for up to 4,000 miles of charging. This initiative allows FPL to expand its existing network of FPL EVolution® public chargers with additional charging ports for EV users. This new pilot technology joins FPL EVolution’s program that includes a growing network of public charging stations, FPL EVolution Home® – a subscription-based program for residential customers, FPL EVolution Fleet® – a program that offers turnkey fleet solutions for companies and organizations wanting to electrify their fleets.
When the battery in the mobile trailer is depleted, it returns to FPL's cutting-edge FPL EVolution microgrid located in Riviera Beach to recharge. The microgrid is comprised of a solar array and a battery that help power the EV mobile charging trailer. FPL’s EVolution Hub will help the company gain insight into microgrid technology and its impact on grid stability and reliability.
