Celebrate the release of the 2022 edition of Father of the Bride with this dynamic duo
While Father of the Bride’s 2022 rendition may have had many of us flocking to cinemas out of nostalgia, this Hispanic reimagining of a decades-old classic is nothing short of a tearjerker.
But more than the plot and film itself, the film brings together old friends Gloria Estefan and Andy Garcia in an on-screen dynamic that has been 40 years in the making.
The story behind the Father of the Bride
Andy and Gloria’s lifelong friendship
Andy Garcia, Gloria, and Emilio Estefan have been friends for over four decades, tracing their friendship back to when the Miami Sound Machine would be playing at nearly every club, party, or gig around town. In fact, Andy Garcia used to crash their performances all the time!
They’ve maintained a close friendship for decades, which is why they’re the perfect pairing for this on-screen portrayal of a couple in a troubled marriage. Bringing humor, wit, and timing to their characters, they’re giving them new life.
The ‘Father of the Bride’ as the perfect culmination of their relationship
What’s interesting is how much they bring to the table by virtue of their friendship. From knowing each other’s spouses and families to sharing a certain level of comfort, Andy and Gloria’s performance was made even richer by their history. In fact, it was Andy Garcia who recommended that Emily Estefan play her mother on screen, and how Gloria quips that she was glad it was her lifelong friend her character had to kiss.
It’s always heartwarming to see talented individuals supporting and encouraging each other and bringing out the best in each other, and we can’t wait to watch their humor and chemistry set the silver screen a blaze!
