The Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami
The Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami (CCBM) is an organization that was founded in 2007, honoring the Classical Ballet Repertoire that is so iconic and representative of the Cuban School of Ballet.
Once more, under the direction and creative vision of the incredibly talented Eriberto Jimenez, the CCBM is putting on an incredible show on January 29, 2022. Called “An Evening In White,” the show is playing at the Fillmore Miami Beach, at the Jackie Gleason Theater, and tells an incredible story through music, dance, and poetics. It picks out some iconic elements of other shows from the 19th Century “White Ballets.”
About An Evening In White
The show is essentially an homage to some of the greatest White Ballets, which feature International Cuban Principal Dancers in gorgeous costumes and sets. Some of the featured performances include
Les Sylphides
This tells the story of a young man who encourages white sylphs as they dance in the moonlight. With compositions by Frederick Chipin and choreography by Mikhail Fokine, it’s worth watching how the CCBM brings their own take to it.
Giselle or Gisell, oi les Wilis
Originally choreographed by Jules Perrot and Jean Corelli with music by the talented Adolphe Adam, this show premiered in 1841 and has since been considered a masterwork. Watch the Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami tell this story of heartache, deceit, seduction, and revenge through the medium of dance. It’s the performance of a lifetime.
Swan Lake
Another timeless classic, Swan Lake, features Tchaikovsky’s compositions and choreography by Marius Petipa. It’s the story of princess-turned-swan Odette, who is because of an evil curse, and the curse can only be broken by someone who swears their love and devotion through marriage. The show will gesture the second act pas de deux, wherein her Prince declares his love and commits to marrying Odette.
La Bayadere
Another brilliant ballet by Marius Petipa, La Bayadere, was originally stated in Royal India. It features music by Ludwig Minus shares the story of temple dancer Nikiya and warrior Solor and takes us through their love and commitment, which extends beyond the physical realm. Truly one of a kind, this ballet is one of the most well-received and critically acclaimed out there.
