Little Havana is starting to get more vibrant than ever before.
Since lockdowns are starting to lift, and people are readjusting to life after the pandemic, the cultural happenings and restaurants have started to pop up on the regular and Little Havana is up and running.
How you decide to expose yourself to the wonders of Little Havana does not matter. Whether you want to experience Cuban food in Miami or want to enjoy the feeling of dancing along to salsa music you’ll never run out of things to do in Little Havana. The city’s most memorable and historical sights are between SW 17th and SW 12th Avenues.
This area is filled with the smell of rich tobacco and the sounds of Latin music from the bars and restaurants in Little Havana. So, if you are looking for some fun things to do in Little Havana for your itinerary you have come to the right place.
1. The Calle Ocho Walk of Fame
As you walk on SW 8th street, you will notice the pathway is decorated with pink marble stars. This famous sidewalk is known as The Calle Ocho Walk of Fame. It is Little Havana’s attempt to emulate the spirit of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It recognizes the efforts of famous Cuban celebrities.
One of Cuba’s most loved salsa singers Celia Cruz died in 2003. She was the first person to be immortalized on this pathway in 1987. After this, Calle Ocho started honoring various talented soap stars and various other singers from Latin America.
2. Viernes Culturales
Little Havana’s gallery walks, and street party Viernes Culturales happens on the third Friday of every month. This party, so to say, happens between the 17th and 13th Avenues in Domino Plaza. Even if you do not feel like spending a lot of money, and you just want to relax with the mellow vibe – Viernes is an experience no tourist should miss.
The cultural diversity makes the experience more enjoyable and we cannot wait for them to lift the ban on these kinds of events so the community can return to the regularly scheduled programming.
3. Little Havana Food Tours
The food tours in Little Havana give you an opportunity to experience Cuban history with a guided journey in which you can have food from several eateries on Calle Ocho. Some of the stops on these tours are:
• Guarapo Juice at the Los Pinarenos Fruteria
• Various kinds of sweets from the Azucar Ice Cream Company
• A hearty, fulfilling meal from a home-style restaurant called El Pub
4. Café La Trova
Featuring a triple threat of culinary geniuses – Café La Trova is one of the finest restaurants on Calle Ocho. David Martinez, nationally respected Julio Cabrera, and Michelle Bernstein (who has also won the James Beard Award) work in harmony to make sure this restaurant serves top quality food. At this restaurant, you can easily enjoy an authentic meal with a refreshing mojito that is one of a kind.
If this is not enough, you can also move your feet to the music and dance the night away in one of the most exquisite ambiances on Calle Ocho.
