Wild about running: The 13th Annual ZooRun returns to Zoo Miami this November!

A race for every pace — and for a great cause

If you’ve ever dreamed of racing past giraffes, flamingos, and the occasional elephant lookout — without hopping on a safari — the 13th Annual ZooRun at Zoo Miami might be your perfect fall plan. On November 1, 2025, Zoo Miami Foundation invites the community to lace up for one of South Florida’s most beloved charity races, the ZooRun, presented by Baptist Health.

Wild About Running 1

A wild run for a wild cause

This annual event isn’t just another 5K — it’s an unforgettable way to experience Zoo Miami, the crown jewel of South Dade, while supporting the Zoo Miami Wildlife Conservation Fund. Whether you’re a seasoned runner, a weekend walker, or a proud Miami parent cheering on your mini sprinter in the ZooKidsDash, this event proves that fitness, fun, and wildlife conservation can all run hand in hand.

Run, dash, or go virtual — there’s a race for everyone

The 2025 ZooRun will feature something for every age and fitness level — and yes, even those who prefer cheering from the sidelines with cafecito in hand.

  • ZooRun5K (3.1 miles): A fan favorite for both runners and walkers, this open course winds through the zoo’s lush, animal-filled paths — a truly Miami-style fitness experience.
  • ZooKidsDash: Designed for the zoo’s youngest fans (ages 2–9), these adorable 100–400 meter dashes are the ultimate way to introduce kids to the joy of movement and community.
  • ZooRun10K: For those craving a longer challenge, the limited-edition 10K comes with an extended route, an ultra-premium race shirt, and age-group medals for top finishers.
  • Virtual Options: Can’t make it in person? Join from anywhere and still receive your signature tortoise-themed race shirt and finisher medal.

Participants are encouraged to arrive early — 6:30 a.m. for 10K/5K runners and 7:30 a.m. for KidsDash participants — to ensure a smooth start. After the race, runners and guests can unwind at a post-race festival featuring live music, food, beer, and complimentary Zoo Miami admission for the day.

As Zoo Miami Foundation President & CEO Jose Romano put it,

“While we invite our community to enjoy the zoo and exercise, this year’s ZooRun will directly impact the more than 75 wildlife conservation programs across 25+ countries that we support annually.”

That means every step, stride, and smile on race day helps protect wildlife around the world — from sea turtles or panthers in Florida to harpy eagles in Panama.

Running toward a more sustainable future

Beyond the medals and the Miami sunshine, the ZooRun is a race with purpose. Since its creation in 1998, the Zoo Miami Wildlife Conservation Fund has worked tirelessly to protect vulnerable species and their habitats. Over the past 27 years, it has funded more than 75 programs across 25 countries, contributing nearly $900,000 annually to global conservation efforts.

That means when you register, you’re doing more than signing up for a fun run — you’re joining a movement. Every dollar raised through the ZooRun supports conservationists working in the field, researchers protecting ecosystems, and educational programs that inspire the next generation of wildlife advocates.

This year’s event also brings together a powerhouse lineup of community supporters and sponsors, including Baptist Health (presenting sponsor), Accenture, VEG ER for Pets, and the Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition — all united by a shared belief in giving back to the community that makes Miami so unique.

For locals, this event has become more than just a race — it’s a celebration of Miami’s heart. It’s where runners of all backgrounds come together, from Kendall to Little Havana to Coral Gables, proving that our city’s strength lies in unity, compassion, and that unbeatable Miami energy.

The ZooRun isn’t just about the miles — it’s about meaning. It’s about families running together, kids laughing under the palm trees, and a community choosing to move with purpose. Whether you join in-person or virtually, your participation helps Zoo Miami Foundation continue its mission of protecting wildlife and inspiring future generations.
