Top 8 Latin Dance Parties in the Miami Area

Are you looking for dancing so hot the floor melts? Thankfully you’re in the right place, because South Florida is home to the best dancers on earth.

DJ Jorge Charun has known it since he moved to Miami 12 years ago. But the one big problem he found was that most clubs were only playing new hits off the radio and ignoring decades of classics. So he started a company called Miami Salsa Scene and now he and his crew have events seven nights a week (Follow @MiamiSalsaScene on IG and FB).

“What’s great about Salsa and Bachata is the way they break the cultural barriers that society has imposed on us,” he says. And here are the Top 8 Latin Dance Parties in South Florida according to DJ Jorge Charun.

Fridays at Frankey’s in Hallandale

All these beautiful people dancing to salsa and bachata with most of the top dancers and dance instructors in South Florida coming here and bringing their communities together. It’s a really cool spot. It’s very well attended. We're getting about 500 people every Friday. If you haven’t been, you have to check it out.

Saturdays at Ball & Chain

This is a really great party with a live salsa band on the Pineapple Stage and it’s absolutely free to the public. There’s about 800 people on Saturday, two DJ’s, and live bands like Tony Succar who won two Grammys, Tito Puente Jr., Pepe Montes, Grammy Award winner Marlow Rosado. Miami’s own Lucy Grau performs there as well so the lineup is always nice and high quality. I really appreciate what Ball & Chain does for the Latin community and music in Miami.

Sundays at Ball & Chain

One of the reasons why is because they offer a free salsa class. It’s a lot of great dance instructors and a very Cuban themed night. A lot of Cuban salsa. A lot of the Miami homegrown dancers love to go there and feel right at home. People who have been here and people who just got here. It feels like they’re back home music-wise. Music includes groups like Havana Primera, Maikel Blanco, Mayito Rivera, Celie Reve, and some of the classics like the Fania Records label and Oscar D’León. It’s a nice blend of the classic and the new.

Tuesdays at Hollywood Live

This is a cool Tuesday spot where it’s kind of nice and quiet. What I like is that they do salsa and bachata, and every single Tuesday they give a different local school a chance to teach the class. They use different DJ’s from the area that specialize in salsa and bachata. Everyone in the scene has gone there at one point to party or dance, or DJ, or teach. It’s hosted by two ladies who have been in the scene for a long time named Janet Neuschatz and Kimberly Cantor.

Sunday or Monday at El Patio

This is a Colombian spot in Wynwood. They play Latin open format. If you’re into the reggaeton that’s on the radio now it’s a really good spot to check out. They also have a cool party on Monday night that is  Salsa vs Reggaeton, which is a really cool concept where they have two DJ’s set up in two different booths side by side and they take turns for about a half hour each. One plays reggaeton and then the other takes over and plays salsa so the crowd goes crazy singing Bad Bunny and Marc Anthony back and forth all night long.

This is Latin night in Dania Beach, and what’s good about this party is that it’s free to park, free to go in, there’s a free salsa and bachata class, and they have amazing drink specials like $3 drinks all night. This is a great place to get your dance on and pregame. It’s an early club from like 9p.m. to 1a.m., and then around 12:30 or 1a.m. people go to another spot. This party is pulling a couple hundred people a week. It’s great.

Bacha Tuesdays at Ball & Chain

This is a night that is dedicated to bachata. If you love bachata, you have to go. Take your hot mami or whoever you want to dance real close with all night long. It’s right on Calle Ocho and there’s a free bachata dancing class with an instructor by the name of Becky Sagarnaga who is an up and coming dancer in the Miami scene.

Wednesdays at Los Altos

We’re going to be here starting in March and what’s cool about it is you need a password to get in. It’s like a secret spot where you walk up these stairs and go into a candy store and there is a lady there, you give her the password, and without it they will not let you in, and you walk through this candy store and they open the door and it’s a party that’s packed with people. It’s awesome. Awesome concept. The password is “Salsa.”
