Join me on an exciting journey through the vibrant streets of Miami, where you can feel all the powerful energy. We'll wander down Calle Ocho, soaking up the rich culture and colorful sceneries that make this place unforgettable. Let’s explore together!
When you hear "Calle Ocho," the lively personality of the Cuban community instantly comes to mind; it feels as if you’ve been transported away to Cuba itself, all without leaving Miami! There’s so much to love here—the amazing food, fashion, and the incredible warmth of the locals.
This article is dedicated to the beautiful Calle Ocho community and its embrace of Cuban culture. As a proud Latina from New York City—with Dominican and Arabic roots—I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude. Just in February, I strolled once again through the animated streets of Calle Ocho, immersing myself in the culture, fabulous fashion, and of course, the food that never fails to inspire me.
An unforgettable day on Calle Ocho with Yli Liriano awaits!
Let’s kick off our journey at the charming “Havana Collection” store on Calle Ocho. Here, the owner Fidel, and his right-hand Ralph have opened their arms to me, fully celebrating my modeling and fashion endeavors—so much so that I’m now featured in their museum at the alley! I proudly transformed the iconic men's guayabera Cuban shirt into a stunning dress for women. Experience an energetic blast from the past at their incredible tourist attraction! Immerse yourself in the colorful world of classic 50s cars, stunning murals, and captivating paintings that illuminate the space. Inside the store, you'll discover a treasure collection of stylish Cuban guayabera shirts and a fantastic range of apparel for everyone. Don't miss out on this lively fusion of culture and nostalgia!
You can find right next door, the famous “ChurroMania”—their churros, accompanied by chocolate and caramel sauce, are amazing! It’s the perfect spot to savor a treat while catching up on the latest Calle Ocho newspaper and reading this article.
As I wandered past local shops, I couldn’t resist popping into “La Esquina del Pan con Bistec 2” for a quick lunch and even got to chat with some barbers at the nearby barbershop. Their enthusiasm for my articles was so heartwarming!
For dinner, let me tell you, I can’t get enough of La Carreta—my go-to dinner spot! From the moment you step inside, you’re welcomed like family; I swear, I know everyone who works there! The food is out of this world! For dessert, my favorite gelato spot is Naranja Pina on Calle Ocho owned by Miguel. Daniela always greets me with such warmth, and I love sharing my latest Calle Ocho newspaper with her to read my articles.
On Valentine’s Day, I had the pleasure of dining at a delightful mom-and-pop Cuban restaurant called “La Casita.” The moment I walked in, people were showering me with compliments about how elegant I looked! The love, support, and deep sense of community I’ve experienced from Cuban culture is simply unmatched.

Exploring Cuban style: A vibrant fashion journey
Cubans have a deep appreciation for fashion, and they love to express their best selves. I admire the Cuban men in their guayabera shirts and fedoras. The guayabera made its mark on the fashion scene after Cuba's independence from Spain, captivating hearts with its vibrant style! It radiates charm and offers incredible breathability, making it the perfect choice for warm, sunny days. This iconic shirt celebrates both elegance and comfort. Watching the men at Domino Park look sharp is truly inspiring.
As an international image consultant, it’s no secret that I love to go all out with my fashion choices. Often wear extravagant outfits, and the best part is that the locals always shower me with delightful compliments! It’s a thrilling experience that brings my style to life! So the next time you stroll down Calle Ocho, you don’t have to pretend to be someone else; you are unique as you are. Love and accept yourself, and others will celebrate you for who you truly are. It is only through this genuine acceptance that you can truly inspire admiration from those around you.
And remember to "love who you are when you look in the mirror"
