Soar through summer at the Museum of Discovery and Science!

New exhibit, aviation weekends, camp STEAMology, and sloth encounter helps keep kids engaged at the Museum of Discovery and Science

School's out, but the learning never stops at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) in Fort Lauderdale! This summer, families can explore the fascinating world of flight during To Fly: Aviation Weekends, meet a captivating two-toed sloth and delve into a variety of exciting Camp STEAMology programs.

Prepare for takeoff to fly and embrace the slow life

Get ready for a flight adventure! To Fly: Aviation Weekends at the Museum of Discovery and Science invites youngsters to discover the magic of flight through interactive exhibits and activities. From July onward, every weekend, kids can tinker with airplane controls, test their piloting skills with drones, and learn how different animals, like insects and birds, have adapted to take flight.

This program also explores exciting careers in aviation, including aerospace engineering, navigation, and mechanics. Even the youngest explorers (ages 0-6) can join the fun by crafting biplanes, rockets, or parachutes and grasping how objects soar through the air. To complete the aviation experience, themed IMAX® films like "Cities of the Future," "Flight of the Butterflies," and "Wings Over Water" will be showcased on the museum's giant screen. Banyan Air, JetBlue, and the JetBlue Grants Foundation sponsor this exciting program.

Sometimes, slow and steady wins the race! Survival of the Slowest, Museum of Discovery and Science's newest summer exhibit presented by Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital, flips the script on animal adaptations. This exhibit sheds light on the remarkable strategies employed by often-overlooked species that thrive by slowing down in a world dominated by speed and size. Get up close with 17 fascinating species, including sloths, tarantulas, tortoises, hedgehogs, and blue-tongued skinks, all showcased in 14 meticulously designed habitats.

Daily presentations featuring these incredible animals provide educational insights, and additional talks are offered Wednesdays through Saturdays at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Running through September 5th, 2024, this exhibit is a collaboration between Little Ray's Nature Exhibitions and the Canadian Museum of Nature.

This unique event offers early morning access to the museum, where you can meet JJ, the adorable two-toed sloth. The experience also includes museum admission, breakfast, an IMAX® documentary, and valuable information about the importance of rainforest conservation. While the school's out, MODS' Camp STEAMology keeps the learning fun going! Designed for children ages 5-10, these captivating camps offer a variety of one-, three-, and five-day programs that ignite a passion for science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).

Here's a sneak peek at some of the Museum of Discovery and Science's exciting themes for July:
