Pat Geraghty to retire as CEO of GuideWell and Florida Blue after 14 years of transformational leadership

Geraghty’s tenure saw explosive growth, industry innovation, and a renewed mission-driven focus on community health

GuideWell and Florida Blue announced today that Pat Geraghty, 65, will retire from his role as President and CEO on December 31, 2025, closing out a 14-year run marked by sweeping transformation and explosive growth.

A legacy of growth and transformation

When Geraghty took the helm in 2011, Florida Blue was a traditional health insurer. Under his leadership, it evolved into GuideWell—a national health solutions enterprise with $32 billion in revenue, up from $8 billion when he started.

Geraghty oversaw a massive expansion of the company’s services and geographic reach. GuideWell now serves more than 38 million people across all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, with more than 18,000 employees. His leadership turned Florida Blue into a national powerhouse and a model of what a modern, community-focused health organization can be.

“Pat Geraghty’s visionary leadership has transformed our organization and positioned us as a national leader,” said Thomas G. Kuntz, Chairman of the GuideWell and Florida Blue Boards. “His commitment to mission and innovation has left an indelible mark.”

Championing health equity, innovation, and community

Geraghty’s focus wasn’t just on scale—it was on purpose. He led the company’s shift from an insurer to a comprehensive health solutions provider, prioritizing wellness, preventive care, and community impact. His guidance helped Florida Blue become a top-rated organization in customer satisfaction and a certified Great Place to Work.

His influence extended beyond the company. Geraghty played a major role in implementing the Affordable Care Act in Florida, making Florida Blue one of the largest providers of individual insurance coverage in the country. He served as Board Chair for AHIP, sat on the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association board, and was a go-to voice in health care innovation nationwide.

Recognized for his leadership and service, Geraghty was named Florida Trend’s Floridian of the Year, FAU’s Business Leader of the Year, and was inducted into the First Coast Business Hall of Fame.

Reflecting on his time at GuideWell, Geraghty said, “Reshaping this organization with our dedicated team has been the highlight of my career. I’m proud of what we’ve built and excited for what’s next.”

A national search for his successor is now underway, led by executive search firm Russell Reynolds Associates.
