About the innovative Miami Dade College learning model
Dr. Malou C. Harrison, MDC's Executive Vice President and Provost, believes that the 'learn and earn' framework is a unique approach to educational and vocational training. Apprenticeship programs benefit everyone involved: the apprentice, the business, and the local economy as a whole.
When an apprentice completes a certified apprenticeship program, they are considered an expert in their discipline. Miami Dade College's apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship offerings are critical to the region's labor market, growing population, and economic growth.
What do the apprenticeship programs offer?
Both the US Department of Labor and the Florida Department of Education has recognized MDC as a pioneer in their respective fields by designating Miami Dade College as an "Apprenticeship Ambassador" and a "Program Sponsor". Miami Dade College can approve vocations, businesses, and trainees to join Registered Apprenticeship and Pre-apprenticeship Programs.
Miami Dade College offers more Registered Apprenticeship Programs than any other Florida institution, with 15 different careers available. The newly approved courses include a wide range of fields, including construction, dental assisting, finance, hospitality, nursing, and education.
