Set sail for learning! Miami Dade College joins 2024 Fleet Week Miami as an educational partner

Miami Dade College to host events featuring navy leaders, esports tournaments, and culinary challenges.

Calling all Miami residents and students with a passion for the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard! Fleet Week Miami is back, and this year, Miami Dade College (MDC) is joining the festivities as the official educational partner. From May 5th to 12th, the Port of Miami will be transformed into a hub of exciting events and activities, and MDC will be right in the thick of it!

A week of celebration and education

This marks the first time in 35 years that MDC has participated in Fleet Week Miami, and the college is pulling out all the stops. Throughout the week, MDC's Wolfson Campus, located in the heart of downtown Miami, will host a series of events featuring top Navy leaders. These events are a fantastic opportunity for students, faculty, and industry professionals to connect with the military and gain valuable insights.

Supply Chain Fireside Chat

Dive deep into the world of military logistics with a special fireside chat featuring U.S. Marine Corps Col. Douglas R. Burke, Director of Logistics for the U.S. Southern Command. This event, taking place on Wednesday, May 8th at 9:00 am at the MDC Wolfson Campus Auditorium, is open to students, faculty, and industry professionals alike.

Esports Tournament: U.S. Navy/Marines vs. MDC Sharks

On Thursday, May 9th, prepare to witness an epic esports showdown between the U.S. Navy/Marines and MDC's very own MDC Sharks team. This friendly competition, held at Building 8 on the Wolfson Campus from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, is more than just a battle for bragging rights. It's also a fantastic opportunity for high school and college students to learn about the educational programs and career paths offered by the U.S. Navy. Special guest U.S. Navy Commander Dominique A. Jackson, Outreach and Diversity Deputy Director for Navy Recruiting Command will be on hand to answer questions and provide insights into military life.

Mystery Basket Challenge

Get ready to witness the ultimate test of culinary creativity this Fleet Week at the Mystery Basket Challenge. This exciting competition, taking place on Saturday, May 11th, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Tuyo building on the Wolfson Campus, will pit seven teams against each other in a battle of culinary skills. The twist? Each team will be presented with a surprise basket of ingredients and tasked with creating a delicious dish. A distinguished panel of judges, including Miami Dolphins Chef Cale Fopma, Rear Adm. David Patchell, and Chef Paul Galadza, will evaluate the creations based on taste, presentation, and creativity. One team, comprised of Miami Culinary Institute students, will be representing MDC, so come out to Fleet Week and cheer them on!
