MDX is a transportation agency funded by the people for the people

MDX is committed to facilitating the mobility of goods, people, and the economy

Incepted in 1994 as a user-funded transportation company, the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX) is a nonprofit organization. The Miami-Dade County Commission established this agency to control toll revenue collection on the five expressways. This agency also ensures that all the local toll revenue is invested back to improve transportation.

Operating on local expressways

The five expressways that MDX operates, maintains, and enhances are the most heavily used expressways in Miami-Dade County. These expressways include Airport Expressway (SR 112), Dolphin Expressway (SR 836), Don Shula Expressway (SR 874), Snapper Creek Expressway (SR 878), and Gratigny Parkway (SR 924).

The agency has laid out a Master Transportation Plan that guides plans for future investments to reduce travel time for tourists and locals. All upcoming projects encompass the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). The master plan renews every five years along with LRTP.

The current five-year plan identifies projects that MDX will fund in the upcoming five years. It also aims to expand the capacity of the highway system and implementation of Open Road Toll collection and Intelligent Transportation Systems, but that’s not it.

The plan also incorporates improvements to other assets besides highway facilities and roadways. In addition to that, this program also outlines a budget for repairs and system maintenance that results from unforeseen occurrences or emergencies.

Faster and safer trips

MDX works actively to improve expressways and roads in Miami-Dade County so people can have safer and faster trips. In case of any trouble on any of the five expressways, people can move to the side, lock their vehicle and call *347 and MDX’s Road Rangers will reach as soon as possible.

MDX’s Road Ranger service is aimed at making safer trips a reality, not just a claim. They are available 24/7 to respond to any emergencies – all at no cost. The agency assures safety for travelers and passengers on the roads through its round-the-clock Road Ranger service.

Travelers can save 50% on tolls if they use MDX Expressways. Those looking for more information on SunPass and the toll can check out their website.
