The Fort Lauderdale High School student dies tragically took his own life by jumping off a balcony at the school
A student dies from Fort Lauderdale High School has reportedly jumped to his death off a third-story building on campus. Battalion Chief Stephen Gollan of the Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Department has stated that they believe the incident was indeed a suicide. According to the preliminary inquiry, the student committed suicide and left a series of messages.
Student dies due to suicide?
The incident happened Thursday morning at Fort Lauderdale High School. According to authorities, the 17-year-old was a male senior student who plunged off the building while other students looked on.He was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, but he succumbed to his wounds there.
The school was put into lockdown since there was a crisis team on campus and for the safety of the students. Following news of the incident, concerned parents rushed to the school to retrieve their children and ensure everyone was okay. Counselors met with families to offer reassurance and support.
This is the second time a student has committed suicide this academic year by jumping from a school facility. A senior from Palmetto Senior High School also attempted suicide in August by jumping from the third floor. Counselors specializing in grief support will be available on Fort Lauderdale High School campus this week and the next.
