Gloria Estefan is the first Hispanic woman to join the Songwriters Hall of Fame 2023

Gloria Estefan is adding yet another achievement to her legendary career as the first Hispanic woman to join the Songwriters Hall of Fame

Over four decades into her legendary career, Gloria Estefan is on the verge of making new musical history. The Songwriters Hall of Fame will induct the Cuban music legend into its ranks during its 52nd annual event. Estefan will make history by becoming the first Hispanic woman to join the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

A little about Gloria Estefan's music career

Estefan has an impressive number of awards and accolades to boast. She has reportedly won eight Grammy Awards and sold more than 100 million songs globally. In 2015, President Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Eight years later, she has been inducted into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame.

This past summer, Estefan was featured in Father of the Bride on HBO Max, which attracted the service's greatest audience to date for a streaming-only film. In honor of Latino Heritage Month in the fall, toymaker Mattel released a Barbie doll inspired by the performer.

Estefan's music has been a mainstay at many Latino events for quite some time, thanks to her many chart-topping singles, including "Anything For You" and "Don't Wanna Lose You." If there's anyone who deserves to be gracing the Songwriters Hall of Fame, it's her. It's about time we see a legend, especially a Hispanic woman, recognized for her contributions to Latino music.

Who else is making it to the Hall of Fame?

Songwriters have been recognized for their contributions to music since the Songwriters Hall of Fame was founded in 1969. Estefan is one of seven musical legends to be honored at this year's 52nd Annual Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Others on the list include Snoop Dogg, Sade, Glen Ballard, Teddy Riley, Jeff Lynne, and Liz Rose. The high-profile gala will take place on Thursday, June 15, at New York City's Marriott Marquis.
