Florida Blue launches free resources to support caregivers across Florida

Comprehensive caregiving support is available to all, regardless of insurance status

Florida Blue, Florida’s Blue Cross and Blue Shield health plan, has unveiled an expansive initiative aimed at supporting the millions of caregivers in the state. The program, which is free and open to the public, includes support groups, care planning resources, and direct access to expert guidance through Florida Blue Centers statewide. Whether you're a Florida Blue member or not, the program is designed to ease the mental, emotional, and physical challenges that come with caregiving.

The growing need for caregiver support

Caregiving is increasingly common in American households. According to the latest research from the National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP, 1 in 5 adults—approximately 53 million people—are serving as unpaid caregivers. In Florida alone, more than 2.7 million individuals provide essential support to family members or loved ones, a number that continues to grow as the population ages and more families take on caregiving responsibilities.

These caregivers often sacrifice their own health and financial well-being to care for others, with the majority being middle-aged women devoting over 24 hours a week to caregiving tasks. The cumulative value of this unpaid labor is staggering—estimated at $470 billion annually across the U.S.

“Caregivers are the invisible backbone of our health system,” said Dr. Thomas Graf, vice president and chief medical officer of Florida Blue Medicare. “Our goal is to shine a light on their needs and make it easier for them to access support, resources, and self-care options—without cost barriers.”

Resources that make a difference

Through Florida Blue Centers located throughout the state, caregivers can connect with community specialists—licensed social workers who offer one-on-one guidance. These specialists help individuals navigate everything from food and financial assistance to military veteran services and transportation options. Whether you prefer in-person meetings, phone calls, or virtual consultations, help is accessible in a way that fits your lifestyle.

Caregivers can also explore digital tools and educational content at FloridaBlue.com/Caregiver, including:

  • A comprehensive Caregiver Guide
  • Tips for creating a caregiving plan
  • Legal and health forms
  • Webinars and instructional videos
  • Facebook and YouTube channels under Caregiver Connections

These services are available in both English and Spanish, further breaking down language and accessibility barriers for Florida’s diverse population. Individuals can also call 1-877-352-5830 to speak with a specialist directly or visit their nearest Florida Blue Center to receive support in person.
