City of Coral Gables declares October 2025 “Kiwanis Club of Little Havana Month” to honor 50 years of service

From scholarships to street festivals, the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana continues to shape Miami’s cultural and community landscape

In a heartfelt tribute to community spirit and decades of dedication, the City of Coral Gables has officially proclaimed October 2025 as Kiwanis Club of Little Havana Month. The honor celebrates the organization’s 50 years of service, its transformative programs for families and children, and its cultural contributions—most notably through Carnaval on the Mile, one of the city’s most beloved annual events.

Celebrating 50 years of community impact

Founded in 1975 by 30 civic-minded young men, the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana has spent five decades empowering children, supporting families, and giving back to South Florida through hands-on programs and events that uplift the community.

Since 1999, the organization has produced Carnaval on the Mile, transforming Miracle Mile into a vibrant celebration of music, art, and local culture. Drawing over 150,000 attendees each year, the festival is a centerpiece of Carnaval Miami and contributes an estimated $40 million in annual economic impact to Greater Miami.

Beyond the festivities, the Club has awarded more than 500 college scholarships, distributed school supplies and holiday toys, and hosted youth basketball leagues and summer camps—efforts that continue to change lives one project at a time.

A legacy rooted in Coral Gables and community pride

With 175 active members, many of whom are Coral Gables residents, the Club’s leadership includes influential community figures such as Leslie Pantin, Willy Bermello, Frank Paredes, Carlos Font, Pedro Menéndez, and Ángel Véliz. Under the guidance of current president Thomas Falcon, the organization continues to grow its reach and strengthen community bonds.

“We are deeply honored by this proclamation,” said Falcon. “For 50 years, our mission has been to build bridges, create opportunities, and serve our community. This recognition belongs to our volunteers, sponsors, and the residents who make our work possible.”

As Coral Gables celebrates Kiwanis Club of Little Havana Month, it’s not just honoring an organization—it’s honoring a legacy of compassion, culture, and civic pride that continues to define Miami’s heart.
