CITT celebrates two years of public engagement with the CITT Ambassador Program

Miami-Dade officials honor 2024 CITT Ambassador of the Year and highlight transit advocacy success

Miami-Dade County officials, including Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, gathered at Casa Cuba in South Miami to mark the second anniversary of the Citizens’ Independent Transportation Trust (CITT) Ambassador Program. The event celebrated the program’s success in enhancing public transit through direct community engagement and honored Alex Montalvo as the 2024 CITT Ambassador of the Year for his outstanding contributions.

Since its launch in 2023, the program has provided a platform for transit riders to share their experiences and advocate for improvements across Miami-Dade’s transportation network. The initiative allows residents to submit feedback via an online app, which is then analyzed and shared with the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works to enhance transit services.

“The CITT Ambassador Program is a shining example of how we can bring government and residents together to ensure that every resident has safe, reliable, and efficient transit options,” said Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “Public transit is critical to a thriving community, and through this program, we are empowering residents to become champions for mobility solutions that improve the quality of life for all.”

Strengthening transit through community engagement

The CITT Ambassador Program has become a model for civic engagement in transportation, with participants earning mobility rewards—such as ride-share discounts on Uber and Lyft—in exchange for their feedback.

By working closely with local municipalities and transit authorities, the program ensures that assets funded by Miami-Dade’s half-cent Surtax remain in good condition and that riders' concerns are addressed.

"In just two years, the CITT Ambassador Program has become a model for civic engagement in transportation. By working directly with residents, we are strengthening the link between the community and the decision-making process that shapes our transit system. This initiative ensures that the voices of transit riders are being heard and that our transportation solutions truly reflect the needs of the people." said Robert Wolfarth, Chair of the CITT.

Honoring the 2024 CITT Ambassador of the Year

This year’s CITT Ambassador of the Year, Alex Montalvo, was recognized for his dedication in filling out transit surveys and helping shape mobility improvements throughout the county.

“The CITT Ambassador Program is about more than just giving feedback—it’s about empowering residents to be part of the decision-making process,” said Meg Daly, Chair of the CITT’s Community Engagement Committee. “By leveraging real-time public engagement, we’re building a transportation system that truly serves our diverse community.”

As the program enters its third year, CITT officials are calling on more Miami-Dade residents to get involved in shaping the future of public transit.
