After a long break from college basketball, the Miami Hurricanes are preparing to win big
With a monumental victory on Sunday evening, the Miami Hurricanes secured their spot in the NCAA men's Final Four. In the coming weeks, Miami, Florida Atlantic, and San Diego State will all make their first trips to the collegiate basketball championship game in Houston. The fact that three first-time winners going to the championship hasn't happened since 1970 is yet another win for these teams.
What’s different this NCAA 2022-2023 season
The Final Four won’t feature a top seed this season, which is something that hasn’t happened since 2011. Nonetheless, San Diego State and Miami will both be 5 seeds, UConn will be a 4, and Florida Atlantic will be a 9. The four teams have a cumulative seed of 23, the second-highest number since seeding was introduced in 1979. For the first time ever, no one from the top three seeds advanced to the Final Four.
Why this victory is so historical for the Miami Hurricanes?
Despite being known as a "football school," Miami is just two wins away from winning its first men's college basketball national title. Jordan Miller was the night's undisputed MVP after leading the Hurricanes with 27 points on a flawless performance that included seven made field goals, and thirteen made free throws. In the second half, Miami's free throw percentage was a perfect 1.000 (24 for 25). In the previous 60 years of NCAA tournaments, only Christian Laettner and Reggie Miller each had perfect shooting games.
