The little girl was attacked by two students while aboard a Homestead school bus
Homestead has been the scene of yet another heart-breaking incident involving a young student. The mother of a 9-year-old girl who was beaten on a Homestead school bus says she will file charges against the students who were caught hurting her child on camera. According to details shared by the mother, the child is currently in the third grade at Coconut Palm K-8 Academy.
One of the students in the video has since been arrested and State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle, has decided that battery charges are more applicable than a civil citation.
“We believe that, based on the evidence and the circumstances, the use of a civil citation was incompatible with the level of violence displayed by the 15-year-old against his much younger and smaller victim. As a result, we have filed criminal battery charges with our juvenile courts.”

Here’s what happened on the Homestead school bus:
About the video
The 40-second video was filmed on a mobile phone and uploaded to social media. It shows a pair of students, both boys, repeatedly striking the girl, throwing punches at her head. What seems to be an argument escalates and turns into a physical altercation.
There were a lot of people on the Homestead school bus, yet in the footage, no kids or adults did anything to help. During one tense moment, the girl huddles down low on her seat, covering her head with her hands. Eventually, one of the students pauses, punching her as the other unleashes a barrage of blows from behind.
The mother and school management’s response
The mother of the victim stated that her daughter, along with two other sons (7 and 10 years old), had only started attending school on January 9. Since her two oldest children have been bullied, she has spoken to school management about the issue that took place on the Homestead school bus.
However, she claims that neither the principal, assistant principal, nor school counselor has taken any action. In fact, the principal has informed her they are too busy and suggested she take her kids out of school.
How do you think schools can control bullying on their premises? Do you think what happened on the Homestead school bus could have been avoided?
