The charter school evacuated by Miami-Dade police after an anonymous call alerted them about a threat
On Thursday, December 8, a school in South Miami had to be evacuated after an anonymous source dropped in a bomb threat.
The school evacuated after a threat call
According to the South Miami Dade police, they got a call just after 9.30 am about a possible bomb at the Somerset Academy Charter South Miami, located in Southwest Miami.
As a response, the school evacuated immediately, and a bomb squad, along with explosive-sniffing trained police dogs, were brought in to thoroughly search the entire school.
The parents of the pupil were notified as well. They were informed that the school had received an unknown phone call about a bomb threat and that, as a result, the school was evacuated, and students, along with the staff, were sent to South Miami Community Center.
The comfort and safety of the students were put first. They were provided with lunch and activities to keep them immersed.
In the meantime, South Miami Police and the Miami-Dade County Police worked together to control and assess the worrisome situation.
The school also allowed the parents and guardians of the children to pick their children up from the community center.
The caller was not local, said the police officials
According to a South-Miami Dade police officer, they received a call in the morning from a young male who spoke with a secretary and told her there were numerous bombs planted on the school premises.
When he was asked about the location of the bombs, he said no one needed to know that because everybody was going to die.
The police officials traced the number and found that it was not a local caller. After a wide and thorough search and constant patrolling, no explosives were found, and the school was given an all-clear signal after 11 am.
The staff and students returned to the building after the school evacuated.
