On Friday morning, November 4, the ex-girlfriend of a police officer that was off duty in Miami-Dade was shot in Hialeah. The police officer was shifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.
Miami-Dade Police released a statement on Twitter stating that the officer was in serious condition and the incident appeared to be domestic related.
The officials added that the victim is a police veteran who had been working in the Homeland Security Bureau for 17 years. As per court documents, the victim is Damian Colon.

What happened with the ex-girlfriend of a police officer off duty?
In a news release, Hialeah’s Police have shed some light on the incident. According to the release, a neighbor claimed that the Miami-Dade Police officer was staying at his parent's house, and that’s where the shooting occurred.
The shooter has been identified as Yessenia Sanchez, a former Miami-Dade Schools Police officer. Sanchez and the victim had previously been in a 7-year relationship. According to the Police, Sanchez tracked Colon’s location on Friday and reached his parents’ house.
However, things took a turn when they began arguing, and Sanchez pulled out a weapon and shot him.

After the shooting, Sanchez fled the scene, Palm Avenue and 45th Street, but crashed into a vehicle. Sanchez then escaped on foot but was located and taken into custody.
Yessenia Sanchez thas been charged with attempted first-degree murder, fleeing the scene, and aggravated stalking. It was revealed that Sanchez had been arrested last year on domestic violence charges associated with Damian Colon, the Miami-Dade Police officer.
A group of law enforcement officials had gathered outside Jackson Memorial Hospital to support the injured officer. In fact, even Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava visited the hospital to extend her support for Damian Colon.
