FBI and CSI have given an update about a statement about cyber security before the 2022 midterm elections
On November 8, 2022, the United States will have its general elections. With just a month left for the 2022 midterms, the FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency have released an update.
Both agencies made a statement on Wednesday, claiming that they're confident that the election infrastructure won’t be compromised. They also shared that the FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency will proactively respond to any possible threats while strengthening the election infrastructure to prevent any risks.
Both agencies have claimed that no signs show cyber security has affected the ballot's integrity or prevented someone from casting it.
Here's more on this subject.
What did the agencies say?
Discussing cyber security, the FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency mentioned that any attempts affecting the ballot were successfully blocked or eliminated by the agencies without disrupting the election process.
However, besides releasing this statement, the agencies didn't dive deeper into this matter. They only added that false or exaggerated accusations of cybersecurity compromises to electoral infrastructure could also be spread to mislead people; nevertheless, such attempts would not obstruct voting or the results’ accuracy.
Accusations of the FBI
Republican senators have accused the FBI of interfering in the 2020 election by utilizing whistleblower accusations. The senators claim the agency hid derogatory evidence about President Joe Biden's family.
With only a few weeks until the November 2020 elections, Tony Bobulinski, Biden’s former family friend, stepped forward to confirm texts discovered on Hunter Biden's laptop, accusing them of being corrupted by Chinese authorities.
Tony Bobulinski claimed that no FBI agent reached out to him in 2020 after he visited the bureau to share information about Hunter Biden’s deals. He also alleged that the FBI rigged the election results in 2020.
