ARA Food Corp. has been serving Florida and the rest of the country for over 4 decades
ARA Food Corp. may not be a name you’ve heard of before, but if you live in Florida, chances are you’ve probably tried the well known “Mariquitas” made by them at one point or the other without even knowing it.
Their world-famous plantain, yuca chips, pork rinds and cracklings, among others are just some of the many products made by this amazing company that are fan favorites.
Who are the people behind ARA Food Corp.?
Founded by Alberto Raul Abrante Sr. in 1975, ARA Food Corp. is currently run by his son, Vice President Alberto Raul Abrante Jr., and his sister Marta de Varona. Alberto Raul Abrante Jr.’s daughter, Nicole Abrante, manages the sister company, National Food Corp.
Alberto Sr. was a CPA in Cuba and worked as an entrepreneur there before he moved to Puerto Rico with his family and eventually settled in Miami. In 1975 he established ARA Food Corp. to manufacture plantain chips.
ARA Food Corp is the true definition of a family business, as Marta tells us. She recalls how they were involved from a very young age, helping out at the factory, and packing orders, and it wasn’t just the kids but her grandparents too.
What sets ARA Food Corp. apart in the industry?
The sibling duo, Alberto Jr. and Marta, are keeping the spirit of this as a family business alive, involving their own kids, nieces, and nephews, and expanding onto the social media realm. They continue distributing their products to retailers and outlets across the US, creating high-quality products using plantains that are imported raw from Central America.
The company is the only major manufacturer that makes their chips on US soil, processing, frying, and packing them in the country. It’s what makes them the freshest on the market.
Additionally, they also focus on using quality corn and sunflower oil and follow strict food safety standards. In fact, they are SQF Certified and offer vegan and kosher-friendly products as well.
Their cassava and plantain chips have all received a hechsher from the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, certifying them Kosher. SQF certification is also available for their products. The Global Food Safety Initiative recognizes the Safe Quality Food accreditation as a food quality and safety program. Currently, their products may be found at major supermarkets such as Winn-Dixie, Publix, Aldi, Walmart, and others. Their objective is to supply premium tropical snacks to the residents of Miami and throughout the U.S.
ARA Food Corp. is the leading producer of plantain and cassava chips in the United States. For over 40 years, they’ve provided a pleasant alternative snack experience by using the freshest imported plantains and health-conscious ingredients.
They’re hoping to grow and develop other flavors and encourage clients to support local businesses.
The company also believes in giving back and tries to give back via events, food drives, and outreach to help the community, including helping local chefs, comedians, and students. Stay connected to ARA food Corp. by visiting their website or following them on Instagram @mariquitaschips.
