Darlene Fernandez as the new MDX Executive Director
In a historic and unanimous decision, the Board of Directors of the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX) declared Darlene Fernandez the first-ever female Executive Director of the organization.
Founded in 1994, the MDX has been around for nearly three decades and has officially brought in Darlene Fernandez to head the organization and continue the incredible work she has been doing.
Who is Darlene Fernandez?
Darlene Fernandez is the current Assistant Director of Miami-Dade County’s Department of Transportation and Public Works. She has been serving the organization in various capacities for a while, including as a past Board Member.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Florida International University and was awarded the In the Company of Women Award 2022. The award was presented by the Miami-Dade County Commission on Women & Parks Department, making her an incredibly prominent public figure.
What does her role at the MDX entail?
Currently, as Assistant Director of Miami-Dade County’s Department of Transportation and Public Works, she has an immense amount of pressure and responsibility, handling over 200 employees and a $30 million budget.
As part of her current position, and her own interests and expertise, Darlene Fernandez works on strategy, management, and maintenance of traffic signals and traffic controls devices. She also handles complex transportation, traffic, and infrastructure projects, making her more than qualified to take on the challenging and demanding role her new title will present.
Ms. Fernandez officially takes her new role on May 2, 2022, stepping in place of Javier Rodriguez, who has just left from MDX after 15 years as Executive Director.
