Mayor Daniella Levine Cava hosts the 6th Annual Pig Pardoning Ceremony at Latin Café 2000

Celebrity-named pigs, Travis and Taylor, find holiday reprieve on Pig Pardoning Ceremony

Miami, known for its vibrant culture and traditions, diverges from the customary presidential turkey pardoning with a distinct celebration – the Pig Pardoning Ceremony. Mayor Daniella Levine Cava hosted the sixth edition of this beloved event at Latin Café 2000 Brickell on Monday, December 11, 2023, at 9:30 a.m.

Pigs named after Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce bring star-studded flair

With celebrity-inspired flair, the spotlight falls on Travis and Taylor, two cherished pigs who bear the names of Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce and global icon Taylor Swift. These lovable pigs, under the care of Lina Marenaand Alfonso Berrio, carry monikers bestowed upon them by the couple's daughters, Melanie and ValerieBerrio, in homage to the admired celebrity duo. This whimsical touch merges Miami's affinity for celebrity culture with its deep-rooted family values, infusing star-studded charm into the city's traditions.

Lechón finds joyous reprieve amid diverse community festivities

Taylor and Travis’ pardoning extended beyond a mere ceremony; it encapsulated the unity within Miami's diverse community during the festive season. The lechón, an integral part of Miami's holiday gastronomy, experiences a jubilant reprieve through this distinctive celebration, spotlighting the city's unique culinary culture. Latin Café 2000, an integral part of Miami's Cuban culinary landscape, provided a flavorful and festive affair, treating attendees to homemade Cuban cafecito and complimentary spinach croquetas.

The pigs' journey continues beyond the ceremony. They will find their permanent home at the sprawling Bonanza Equestrian Center in the renowned horse country of Miami-Dade County. Joining eleven previously rescued pigs, Taylor and Travis will spend their days in the expansive open spaces of sanctuaries, marking a heartwarming conclusion to their story.
