VOX Miami building and Miami Dade Cultural Affairs calling all artists

The TREO Group and Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works to build new VOX Miami building and needs artists to help make it happen.

The Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs Art in Public Places Program, which is responsible for the commission and purchase of artworks by contemporary artists, is teaming up with the TREO Group, a privately held real estate investment firm, to accept qualifications from professional artists to participate in designing the façade of a VOX Miami garage.

Part of the team is the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works, a transit-based development at the South Miami Metrorail Station. The building will consist of office space, retail space, and student housing. Selected artists will design engaging artwork.

The deadline to submit qualifications is by the end of the day on May 25. Applicants should be professional artists based in South Florida, being that the display will be located on 5949 Sunset Drive, next to the South Miami Metrorail Station. Artists must submit 10 images of their work, a brief statement, and a resume.

The project will progress in two phases, phase I being the expansion of the already-existing garage that is on the west side of the building. Vox Miami Phase II is building the east facade, which is set to face the US1 and the South Miami Metrorail Station. The project is expected to be completed this summer, as the project began towards the end of April.

Any qualifications submitted will be reviewed by Art in Public Places Professional Advisory Committee (PAC), which is a group of art professionals appointed by the Art in Public Places Trust. PAC will then make a shortlist of artists that will be paid an allowance in exchange for developing specific proposals.

Selected artists will access the architectural plans, participate in an artist orientation and a site visit to meet the stakeholders and develop the proposals. Then, a three-member PAC group will review the artist proposals and make a recommendation to the Art in Public Places Trust to create public art commissions.
