As the newly appointed Tax Collector of Miami-Dade County, Dariel Fernandez reflects on the first month of his tenure, marking a historic period for the office and its commitment to serving residents. In a promising development, the Tax Collector’s Office inaugurated driver license services on February 24, 2025, at its downtown location. Residents can now handle various motor vehicle transactions, including title transfers and renewals, with an estimated capacity to serve 90 customers daily.
Expanding services and community engagement
Fernandez has been proactive in expanding services closer to residents. Meetings with municipalities, including Coral Gables and Miami Beach, have led to collaborative efforts aimed at establishing additional service locations. This initiative is designed to enhance accessibility and better meet the needs of the community.
In a groundbreaking partnership with the Clerk of the Court, personalized Tax Collector services will now be available at the Miami-Dade Courthouse, streamlining operations and reducing wait times for residents. The transition of the management of driver license offices from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to the Tax Collector's Office is also underway, promising improved convenience and efficiency.
In addition to these advancements, the Miami-Dade County Office of the Tax Collector is engaging local students through the Kids Tag Art competition, inviting fifth graders to design a Florida license plate that reflects the state’s spirit. This initiative not only fosters creativity but also supports visual arts programs in local schools.
