The Celia Cruz mural is ready for you to enjoy on Calle Ocho
A beautiful mural, made by the local artist Miss Lushy, in collaboration with Kcull Life Foundation, has been unveiled on Saturday, April 24, 2021. The mural is the first of the Calle Ocho Latin Music & Art Series Project and was created to honor the Cuban Queen of Salsa, Celia Cruz with her well-known hit Azucar!
What better way to celebrate the big Mother’s Day occasion than by heading over to the mural and remembering the mother of salsa, Celia Cruz.
To reveal the mural, a lively celebration was made that welcomed the new mural to the community. Residents were joined by Commissioner Joe Carollo and celebrity guests for a red-carpet ribbon-cutting ceremony. Following that, guests were treated to live entertainment performances by Cuban Percussionists, Salsa Dancers, and Cigar Rollers. To top it all off, the Bacardi Rum Bar gave drink samples and made delicious specialty Mojitos and Rum.
The Calle Ocho Latin Music & Art Series Project is a cultural art movement that aims to revive multicultural communities by featuring Latin culture’s most influential musicians and figures. This is meant to uplift the entire community and have a sense of belonging within the neighborhood. Calle Ocho is the perfect location for such a project since it keeps the flavors of the authentic Cuban heritage. There you will find Cuban music, food, and lifestyle that make it an incredibly special place. Through this initiative, the community will come together and pay tribute to meaningful people of the culture.
This Mother’s Day let us take the time to celebrate the influential singer that changed salsa forever. Her songs, attitude, and spirit are still admired by many worldwide. We guarantee that you will love your visit to the colorful mural.
The Celia Cruz mural was sponsored by the Celia Cruz Legacy Project, the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) / Art of Black Miami, Bacardi, The City of Miami. The colorful mural is located on 1356 SW 8th Street Miami FL 33135, right across from Celia’s star on the Calle Ocho Famous Walk of Fame.
Artist Miss Lushy is to be credited for the mural. She is a young self-made artist that creates pieces to inspire and build cultural movements. Her style is incredibly unique, as she uses a wide range of color pallets and different textures.
“I chose to paint Celia Cruz because she hasn’t been celebrated in recent years and is an important music influencer within the Cuban culture and Miami's Latin lifestyle. Her music is more than just feel-good songs, they're an expression through her vibrant rhythm and soul that reaches so many generations,” said Miss Lushy.
Do not miss a picture-perfect opportunity at the new Celia Cruz Mural this Mother’s Day!
