Many of us do not ever think about what it would be like to live without water. However, there are thousands of Miami- Dade residents that are struggling to pay their water and sewer bill. If you are able, you can help! WASD Cares is a program that operates with donations to assist those that cannot afford their water bill.
The Covid-19 pandemic has left many with financial hardships. As of today, one in ten consumers of the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) is delayed with their bill payments. These consumers are not being penalized with late fees and suspensions of service for now, but soon this may change.
Today water is not just an essential commodity, but it is also a means to prevent the spread of diseases and infection, including the Covid-19 virus. For this reason, the WASD Cares program was initiated.
The program is now in a donation phase. Once enough capital is gathered, the Miami-Dade Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) will be in charge of managing the program, its requirements, and eligibility.
Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava first promoted the creation of this program while still the Commissioner of District 8. Now, there is hope that it could make a big difference in the lives of many residents and community members.
As she said,“ Your contribution to the WASD Cares Program can make a significant impact on those in our community that at this moment are having difficulty and help them find peace. We ask residents that can do it to give the gift of water to a neighbor that needs it.”
The director of the WASD, Roy Coley is optimistic about the program and reaching the desired objective. “Our initial objective is to gather 1 million towards WASD Cares to give financial support to those that need it. If each of our 2.3 million clients donates just 50 cents, we would reach that goal,” stated Coley.
This is your chance to do something meaningful for the community. No matter how big or small your donation is, you will make a big difference by participating in the campaign. You can also make a WASD donation today!
