Miami Rescue Mission and Broward Outreach Centers give hope, sneakers, and school supplies to families in need across South Florida
With heartfelt generosity and strong community support, The Caring Place at Miami Rescue Mission | Broward Outreach Centers held its annual Back-to-School Bash on Saturday, August 2nd, bringing joy and vital school resources to over 2,000 children and 600 families. From backpacks to brand-new sneakers, the event offered more than just supplies—it delivered dignity, confidence, and compassion to South Florida’s most vulnerable.

Community partners and volunteers fuel a day of hope
Families lined up early to receive essentials at the Miami and Hollywood locations, where volunteers handed out pre-packed backpacks, school supplies, hygiene items, t-shirts, and brand-new shoes. Children left The Caring Place smiling, many clutching character-themed gear like Baby Shark and Bluey backpacks, ready and excited for their first day of school.
Michelle, a mother of two attending the event, shared, “We needed help—times are rough. Now my kids are thrilled with their new shoes and backpacks. I’m so grateful for The Caring Place.”
The event was made possible through the generous support of Turner Construction, The Lewis Family, MER LLC, Best Roofing, and countless everyday donors. Volunteers and faith groups like Dovelight Ministry also provided spiritual support and personal prayers for each family.
“The items we distribute aren’t just things—they’re tools to help children believe in themselves,” said Antonio Villasuso, President of The Caring Place. “It’s a blessing to make sure every child can start the school year with pride and hope.”
A longstanding commitment to families in need
The Caring Place’s Back-to-School Bash is part of a broader mission to serve the homeless and at-risk families year-round. With expanded outreach, including Amazon Wish Lists and ongoing volunteer support, the organization provides essentials and emotional support beyond one-time events.
In addition to school-related items, families received hygiene kits, underwear, Bibles, and books for children. Volunteers carefully curated and distributed every item, reinforcing the message that each family matters.
The organization’s reach continues to grow with strategic partnerships, ongoing donations, and faith-led care. Through their Amazon Wish List (accessible via caringplace.org or their Linktree), supporters can continue contributing to future events and year-round needs.
