Early registration is now open for Miami’s Academic WorldQuest 2025: Challenge your students’ global knowledge

Miami high school students are invited to compete in an international relations trivia competition, with the chance to win a trip to Washington, D.C., for the national finals

Miami’s highly anticipated Academic WorldQuest 2025 competition has officially opened early registration for high school teams eager to put their global knowledge to the test. Organized by the World Affairs Council of Miami, this event challenges students to demonstrate their understanding of international affairs, politics, geography, and current events. The competition is set to take place on April 5, 2025, at Florida International University (FIU).

With the stakes higher than ever, students have the chance to not only showcase their knowledge but also win an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for the national finals. This year’s competition promises to provide participants with unparalleled opportunities to engage with global issues and experience world affairs firsthand.

What Is Academic WorldQuest?

Academic WorldQuest (AWQ) is a nationally recognized trivia competition designed to challenge high school students on international relations and global affairs. Teams of four students compete in a series of thematic rounds, covering 10 globally focused topics released by the World Affairs Council of America. The competition aims to inspire students to deepen their knowledge of the interconnected world they live in while fostering teamwork and critical thinking.

Each year, the national study guide is provided to all teams, outlining the topics competitors will study throughout the year. By registering early, teams will receive updates on new study materials and resources directly from the Council. This gives students and their coaches ample time to prepare and immerse themselves in the subjects.

What’s at Stake? The excitement surrounding Academic WorldQuest goes beyond just the thrill of competition. The winning team from Miami will secure an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to compete in the National Academic WorldQuest Championship. This prestigious event, hosted by the World Affairs Councils of America at the U.S. Institute of Peace, brings together the best and brightest young minds from across the nation.

Beyond the competition, students will participate in an exclusive international relations program that includes visits to foreign embassies, meetings with U.S. Senate officials, and other enriching activities that provide a hands-on experience with global diplomacy and governance.

For many students, the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C., and engage in such high-level experiences can be life-changing. It not only broadens their academic horizons but also ignites a passion for international affairs that can shape future career paths.

An open book with a globe emerging from its pages, symbolizing the idea that the world is a vast, explorative narrative.
