The 30-foot TropiChop is being created in sections, so whether you like Pollo Tropical® grilled chicken, roast pork, or the new crispy Pollo Bites™ – your favorite TropiChop® is part of this big serving! The event, which aims to spotlight the unique passion and flavor that makes Pollo Tropical Florida's favorite chicken, is free and open to the public.
Pollo Tropical® already holds two Guinness World Records, for its 1999 Black Beans & Rice Bowl serving (a 3,600-pound bowl of Pollo Tropical Black Beans & Rice), and its 2010 Salsa Bowl serving (a 1,700-pound bowl of traditional Pollo Tropical® salsa).
In 1988, the Miami Heat played its first professional basketball game and the music industry began to gain interest in the beat of Miami. This is when the first Pollo Tropical® was opened as a new quick-service restaurant concept that melded a secret marinade, grilled chicken, and a completely unique menu. The concept created a niche for a fresh alternative to fast food.
The idea was unheard of at the time. Amazing recipes were created that allowed a platform for an authentic menu that included fresh ingredients and served nearly as fast as fast food. This also meant no microwaves or frozen foods– only fresh ingredients that were prepared in an open kitchen environment, right in front of the guest. The uniqueness of the menu was not all. The open kitchen with a 12-foot wide grill as center stage was unheard of in the quick-service restaurant industry at that time. More than a stage, it was an arena of flames and flavor.
The first Pollo Tropical® location opened in the heart of Miami where Northwest 37th Avenue and Seventh Street intersect, and is still serving its community today. More than 180 additional locations have opened since, and now serve as many communities with the same passion, flavor and expertise. The foundation of the flavor for Pollo Tropical® was and still is a 24-hour citrus marinade that gives the fresh, never frozen chicken its unique and cravable flavor. The Pollo Tropical® menu continues to provide among the most variety available, with one-on-a-kind items that are as clever as they are delicious.
