Miami is a city built on hearts and few gestures capture that spirit more powerfully than the Elena A. Miranda Foundation’s $500,000 pledge to the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Patient Assistance Fund.

Honoring compassion through action at Nicklaus Children's Hospital

At a heartfelt reception held on September 17 inside the Kenneth C. Griffin Surgical Tower, community leaders, donors, and hospital staff gathered to unveil the newly named “Elena A. Miranda Marketplace.” The space at Nicklaus Children's Hospital honors not just a donation, but a legacy — one born from love, family, and a commitment to helping children receive the medical care they deserve, regardless of financial barriers.

Founded in 2023 by Carlos Fausto Miranda, the Elena A. Miranda Foundation was established in memory of his late sister, Elena — a name that now symbolizes hope for families across Miami-Dade. The foundation’s mission is simple yet profound: to raise funds for children battling life-threatening illnesses when public resources fall short.

And in true Miami fashion, the Elena A. Miranda Foundation operates with full transparency and generosity — 100% of every donation goes directly toward patient care, thanks to administrative costs being covered entirely by private donors.

“Because public funding is scarce, it’s vital that every dollar that enters the foundation goes into the hospital’s patient assistance fund to be used for life-saving medical treatment,” said Miranda.

A gift that heals far beyond the hospital walls

The event’s program reflected both gratitude and emotion. Allison Baker, President of the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Foundation, opened the ceremony by emphasizing the importance of community-driven philanthropy. Remarks also came from Alejandro Mendieta, President of the Coastal Wealth Private Client Group and a foundation board member, who praised the foundation’s mission as “a shining example of what can happen when compassion meets commitment.”

Miranda spoke with heartfelt candor about the personal inspiration behind his philanthropy, saying:

“Anyone who has childhood memories of being on this campus, either undergoing treatment themselves or in my case, that of my sibling, knows that it can be difficult to return. But by investing every dollar received, we strive to yield an intangible difference — to save a child’s life.”

The foundation’s donation will directly aid the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Patient Assistance Fund, ensuring that families facing financial hardship can still access critical medical interventions. It’s an act of giving that transcends money — it’s about restoring hope to parents and healing to children who might otherwise go without care.

Miami thrives on stories like this — stories of love turned into action, and community stepping up for its most vulnerable members. The Elena A. Miranda Foundation’s generosity reminds us all that behind every skyline and every success story, there’s a heartbeat of compassion that defines our city.
