The hit-and-run case has changed the lives of Miami Heat Security, Stephan Maze and his family member
Miami Gardens police have finally made an arrest in the case of a devastating hit-and-run case that cost the security guard for the Miami Heat Stephan Maze his life. The crash took place over a year ago, but the person responsible for it was unable to be found.
After continued investigation and probing, detectives have identified and taken Brandon Hunter into custody for the crime.
Information about the hit-and-run case
The victim, Stephan Maze, worked for Miami Heat as a security guard at their American Airlines Arena, as it was called. He left his home on the night of March 9, 2021, when he was hit by Hunter.
The collision proved fatal for Maze, who was hit off North Miami Avenue and left there by the perpetrator. The young security guard was starting to figure out his life, loved his job, and had just gotten a car when the crash took place, bringing his young life to a startling halt. He leaves behind a mother, Kesta Nelson, who has relentlessly advocated for justice for her son since the incident.
Charges against Brandon Hunter at present
Brandon Hunter was the driver responsible for the crash but fled the scene as soon as the collision happened. For over a year, he remained in hiding and on the run and has now been arrested on charges of vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a crash. He was tracked and stopped by Sunrise Police in Broward County and taken into police custody.
Soon he will be transferred back to Miami-Dade County, where he will be formally booked and possibly tried in court for this incident. His penalty at the moment is unknown.
