Miami-Dade Tax Collector delivers more than $2.7 billion to local governments this fiscal year

A record-setting distribution underscores how property tax collections keep Miami-Dade running

Miami’s neighborhoods—from Little Havana to Coral Gables—run on more than culture, cafecito, and community pride. Behind the scenes, critical services like schools, police, fire rescue, and city operations depend on the timely flow of property tax dollars. This week, Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez announced another major milestone: more than $2.7 billion in property tax revenues have been successfully collected and distributed so far this fiscal year.

Fernandez’s latest announcement highlights a November distribution of more than $1.7 billion, pushing total distributions for the 2025–2026 fiscal year to $2,744,311,314. These revenues directly support:

  • Municipalities — $366.8 million
  • Miami-Dade County Public Schools — $649.2 million
  • Countywide services such as police, fire rescue, and transit — $595.8 million
  • State and special districts — $60.4 million

Fernandez emphasized that these dollars are the backbone of everyday life in Miami-Dade. “These revenues ensure classrooms remain open, police and fire are supported, and the day-to-day services that keep Miami-Dade functioning continue without interruption,” he said.

But just as important as the amount collected is the integrity behind the process.

The role of the Tax Collector: Service, not spending

While many residents assume the Tax Collector’s Office decides how funds are used, Fernandez clarified an important distinction:
His office does not set budgets or spending priorities.

Their role is to collect, safeguard, and distribute funds to the appropriate governing authorities—those empowered by law to determine how dollars are allocated.

What his office does control is efficiency, accuracy, and transparency. And by all accounts, Fernandez’s team is delivering on all three. Last fiscal year, the office distributed more than $10 billion countywide, demonstrating its capacity to manage massive public revenue flows responsibly.

Strengthening trust through efficiency & accountability

With 11 Tax Collector office locations throughout Miami-Dade, Fernandez and his team aim to make tax-related services accessible and understandable for all residents—from homeowners in Westchester to business owners in Little Havana.

As payments continue through the tax season, additional distributions will be issued, ensuring that cities, counties, schools, and essential public services receive the revenue they depend on without delay.

Miami-Dade’s financial health is a community effort—and transparency from leaders like Tax Collector Fernandez helps residents see exactly how their contributions support the infrastructure, safety, and growth of our county.
