Vice Chairman Anthony Rodriguez brings together community resources to support veterans and active duty personnel on November 1
Miami-Dade County will once again pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served the country, as Vice Chairman Anthony Rodriguez announced the second annual Stand Down event. Dedicated to celebrating and supporting America’s veterans and active-duty military personnel, the event will take place on November 1, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Miami-Dade County Fair & Expo Center, Fuchs Pavilion, located at 10901 SW 24th St., Miami, FL 33165.
Stand Down is a free public event aimed at bringing the community together to honor veterans while providing vital resources and services. The event will feature a variety of activities, including an obstacle course for high school juniors and seniors, JROTC, and Senior ROTC, which is supported by different branches of the military. Additionally, the event aims to address the needs of homeless veterans by offering free haircuts, showers, and meals.
Comprehensive Support And Activities For Veterans
The Stand Down event will provide more than just recreational activities. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with over 80 state, county, and private organizations, offering essential services for veterans, active-duty personnel, and their families. Among the agencies represented will be the DMV, Social Security Administration, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Florida Department of Children and Families, and the U.S. Department of Defense.
Vice Chairman Anthony Rodriguez emphasized the importance of offering these services at the event, explaining that it aims to reach veterans who may find it challenging to access such support. "This Stand Down is about bringing resources to our veterans and active military personnel, providing a central place where they can get help and support in one location," Rodriguez stated.
Veterans’ Legal And Community Services Available On-Site
One of the unique features of this year's Stand Down is the presence of a full county circuit court. County judges will be on-site to hear cases, offering an opportunity for veterans to address legal matters in a supportive setting. This initiative is intended to make justice more accessible and to facilitate resolution for veterans who may need legal assistance.
Additionally, music, food trucks, and military vehicle exhibits will add to the event’s vibrant atmosphere, making it not only a resource fair but also a community celebration. Attendees can enjoy these attractions while accessing services, meeting with representatives, and learning about various assistance programs available to veterans and military families.
With over 80 organizations participating, the Stand Down event will provide access to a wide range of services that may otherwise be difficult for veterans to reach. Representatives from federal and state departments, as well as local and private agencies, will be on hand to assist with everything from obtaining identification cards and accessing social security benefits to navigating veterans' affairs and seeking family support resources.
The event is designed not only for veterans but also for active-duty military personnel, their families, and the general public. It aims to bring the community together to support those who have served, ensuring they have the necessary tools and resources to thrive.
